Dr. Ahmad Ahsan is a former Lead Economist of the World Bank, Consultant to the United Nations, New York, Food and Agricultural Organization, the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies and a Dhaka University faculty member. He led World Bank teams in policy dialogues and development policy reform and technical assistance operations, regional programs on economic integration, international migration, and climate change and economic policies in Africa, East Asia and South Asia regions. He has worked closely with the IMF, regional bodies such as the ADB, AfDB, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the EU, the Governments of Japan and the United States, as well as with researchers from universities and think tanks in various countries. He has published well cited research on labor markets and firm performance in journals and books and co-authored several World Bank reports and also represented the World Bank in policy and research conferences in over 20 cities of the world. Before joining the World Bank, he taught economics at Dhaka University (Bangladesh) and Columbia University (New York). He has a PhD in Economics from Columbia University and a BSS and MSS in Economics from Dhaka University.
