Nasiruddin Ahmed is working as a Professor at the Brac Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), Brac University. He was the Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Bangladesh. Prior to joining the ACC, he was the Secretary, Internal Resources Division, Ministry of Finance and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue. He also worked for the Government in Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Rural Electrification Board, Economic Relations Division, Prime Minister’s Office and Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre. He has consultancy experiences in a number of places such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, World Health Organization, UNICEF, UNESCO and AME Mineral Economics, Sydney, Australia. He taught a course in Economics and Politics in South Asia at the University of Sydney, Australia. He also taught Economics at Jahangirnagar University. Currently, he is engaged in teaching Economics in Masters in Governance and Development Program of BIGD, and Master of Accountancy in Taxation Program at the University of Dhaka.
His contributions in public service include introduction of income tax fair, alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in taxation, combating transfer pricing and trade-based money laundering and holding public hearing for ensuring social accountability.
Dr. Ahmed holds PhD in Economics from the University of Sydney, Australia and Masters in Public Sector Management Training and Development Economics from the American University, Washington, D.C., USA. He was also trained at Harvard University. He has authored a number of papers in Economics published in international journals like Applied Economics, Applied Economics Letters, Public Administration and Development, Indian Economic Review and IGC papers.
