Barrister Jahangir Hossain was the Secretary (ex officio) of VAT Policy Unit, Internal Resources Division (IRD), Ministry of Finance, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He is known to be one of the best interpreters of the Value Added Tax and Customs Laws of Bangladesh. His significant life achievements which are worthy of mention are, he was the Principal Draftsman of the ‘Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duties Act, 2012’ and ‘Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duties Rules, 2016’ of Bangladesh and also, he was the first Project Director of VAT Online project of Bangladesh. He is a Barrister­at­Law from Lincolns Inn, UK; PGDL from City Law School, City University London and also completed his LLB (Honors) from the University of London, UK. Major training and courses he attended are, ‘Course on VAT Administration and Management’ at Royal Institute of Public Administration, UK and ‘Course on Customs Procedure and Valuation Technique’ in South Korea’. He also attended the Training on Arbitration in India organized by BIAC.
