The second National Experts Group Meeting as part of the activities of the PRI Study Centre on Domestic Resource Mobilisation took place on 20 December 2022. It was chaired by Dr A. B. Mirza Azizul Islam, Former Adviser, Ministry of Finance, Caretaker Government of Bangladesh, and was also participated by 11 other members of the group.
The meeting started off with a presentation from the centre director, Dr M A Razzaque, on the recent activities and future plans of PRI CDRM. The objective of that presentation was to inform the NEG members about the key activities that the centre was engaged in since the first NEG meeting, discuss the future work plans and receive NEG members’ perspectives and suggestions to identify the low-hanging fruits related to DRM in the current socio-economic context of Bangladesh. His presentation covered outputs of the centre so far such as the dedicated website on DRM-related issues as an information gateway for the stakeholders and others interested, launch event that took place on 30th October with the participation of high- level present and former government officials, updates on the ongoing research activities of the centre, journalist training sessions, Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), etc.
Dr Bazlul Haque Khondker, Director, PRI, then presented the main findings from the first research strand titled “Taxation for Development Priorities: Evidence from CGE Simulation Analysis’ before the NEG members.
It was followed by an open discussion where individual NEG members shared their candid views on and assessments of the preexisting and emerging issues in the arena of domestic resource mobilisation in Bangladesh.
